Germantown Table | Where Locals Eat in Germantown, Tennessee

I have lived in Germantown for 25 years. That means I have eaten my way through a lot of what this community has to offer — the places that come and go, the ones that somehow survive everything, and the newer spots that have earned a loyal following fast.

If you are relocating here, or if you have been here a while and want to get beyond the obvious chains, this is where I start the conversation.

Germantown Commissary

No list of Germantown restaurants starts anywhere else. The Commissary has been on South Germantown Road long enough that it is part of the neighborhood’s identity. The building sits next to an active rail line, which means your lunch occasionally gets drowned out by a passing train. Nobody complains. The pulled pork is the standard order, but locals know to get the smoked sausage when they want something different. They are open daily starting at 9 AM most days, closing at 8 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 PM Friday and Saturday.

Blue Honey Bistro

This is Germantown’s most consistently excellent option for a proper sit-down meal. The menu leans French-American, the room is small and intimate, and reservations matter — especially on weekends. They serve lunch Tuesday through Friday, Saturday brunch starting at 10:30 AM, and dinner Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5 PM. Closed Sunday and Monday. If you have out-of-town guests and want to make a good impression without driving into the city, this is the answer.

Moondance Grill

Country-chic in the best sense. Moondance draws regulars with its prime steaks and solid cocktail program. The atmosphere is warm without being fussy, and the wine list is more serious than you might expect for a suburban Tennessee spot. Good for a dinner when you want something between casual and formal.

Stoney River Steakhouse

For a more polished steak experience, Stoney River on Poplar Avenue delivers. Hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, a full bar, and a room that works for business dinners and celebrations alike. They serve lunch and dinner daily and offer Sunday brunch. Reservations are a good idea when the occasion matters.

Josephine Estelle

This is the most significant dining arrival in Germantown in years. Chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman — the team behind several of the most respected restaurants in Memphis — opened Josephine Estelle at 6695 Poplar Avenue inside The Standard Germantown development. The concept is pasta-forward Italian-American with handmade doughs prepared in a dedicated dough room on site. The chicken Parmesan and the meatballs have already drawn strong early attention. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday. The upstairs concept, Rosie’s Tavern, runs as a cocktail-forward companion to the dining room below. This one changes the calculus for people who thought a serious chef-driven dinner required a trip into the city.

Southern Social

If you need a dinner option that works for a group or a family, Southern Social on South Germantown Road handles it well. The menu is Southern-leaning with enough variety that everyone at the table finds something. They open at 4 PM daily, which makes it an easy early dinner spot after a long workday or weekend activities.

City Silo Table + Pantry

Plant-based and genuinely good. City Silo is not the kind of spot where you feel like you are making a sacrifice for health. The menu is creative, the portions are generous, and it draws a crowd that is not exclusively vegetarian. For families with varied dietary preferences, this solves a real problem.

Local Lime

Fast-casual Mexican done well. The salsa and the margaritas are the two things people mention most. The vibe is casual and social. Good for a weeknight dinner when nobody wants to plan ahead.

What This Tells You About Germantown

A community’s restaurant scene reflects what the people living there want. Germantown’s dining options skew toward quality over quantity. The places that last here earn their regulars one meal at a time. That is not an accident — it matches the character of the neighborhood.

If you are thinking about making this your community, or if you are already here and ready to find your next home, I would love to help. I have spent 25 years in Germantown. I know the neighborhoods, the streets, the schools, and yes — the restaurants. Let me help you find the right home for your next chapter.
